SG 1125 Tenmoku Brown (Stoneware) - Ceramingo Ceramic Glaze

SG 1125 Tenmoku Brown is a deep and mysterious glaze that brings the Tenmoku tradition—one of the most noble glazes of Far Eastern ceramic art—to stoneware firing temperatures. Thanks to its high iron content, it yields deep chocolate and black tones, while gracefully breaking into caramel and rust tones on sharp corners and reliefs to emphasize the volume of your forms. Glossy and shimmering under the light with its glassy texture, this glaze creates a rich, rustic depth in contemporary ceramics.

✅ Food Safety: This glaze is suitable for food contact. Due to its high-temperature stoneware durability, it is highly robust for kitchen use; it can be safely preferred for tea bowls (chawans), large serving platters, and modern dinnerware collections.

Application & Effect Notes

  • Coating Layers & Effect: Applying 3 layers is recommended for brush application. As the glaze thickness increases, darker black tones become dominant. On thinner areas or highlights such as the curves of your forms, the classic Tenmoku rust and caramel breaks will emerge.
  • Fluidity Character: At higher temperatures, Tenmoku glazes can have a fluid (running) character. This mobility yields richer, variegated variegations and color transitions; however, precautions should be taken against running on vertical forms.
  • Clay Body Selection: While providing the clearest and glossiest results on white stoneware clays, it adopts a much deeper, more masculine character on dark or iron-bearing clay bodies.
  • Preparation: To prevent iron pigments from settling to the bottom and to ensure a flawless finish, always stir the product thoroughly before use.
