S 1056 Metallic - Artistic Low-Fire Glaze

S 1056 Metallic is an artistic low-fire glaze that creates the appearance of cast iron, dark steel, and metallic anthracite on fired clay surfaces. When fired between 1030°C - 1050°C, it can produce deep black tones, metallic gray reflections, and an industrial surface character. It provides a bold, eye-catching finish for decorative vases, sculptures, architectural pieces, and modern designs.

Not Food Safe: This glaze is not recommended for plates, bowls, mugs, or other surfaces that come into contact with food. It should be used on decorative pieces only.

Application Notes

  • Preparation: Mix the product thoroughly before application until a uniform consistency is achieved.
  • Brush Application: The glaze can be applied directly to a clean, dry bisque surface. Applying 3 coats is recommended to achieve a finish similar to the visual sample.
  • Drying Between Coats: Allow the surface to dry before applying the next coat. Apply each coat in a different direction to ensure even coverage.
  • Dipping and Spray Application: Depending on the application method, 5-10% water may be added in a controlled manner.
  • Metallic Character: As the application thickness and number of coats increase, the metallic anthracite appearance and dark steel reflections may become more pronounced.
  • Clay Body Selection: Metallic color transitions may appear more clearly on white clay bodies, while dark or colored clay bodies may create deeper, more integrated surfaces.
  • Flow Control: Preparing a test tile is recommended, particularly for vertical forms, to observe glaze movement and the distribution of the metallic effect across the surface.
  • Storage: Store the product tightly sealed at room temperature, away from direct sunlight, and protect it from freezing.
Important Recommendation: The appearance of artistic metallic glazes may vary depending on application thickness, clay body, kiln atmosphere, and firing schedule. Before the main application, test tiles fired under your own kiln conditions are recommended to evaluate the color, flow, and metallic surface effect.
