Seramiksir White Engobe AST 121 - 175 g

Seramiksir White Engobe AST 121 is an engobe that covers the surface of red, dark, and naturally colored clay bodies to create a uniform white base. It is applied to leather-hard, unfired clay and produces a natural matte surface after firing. It can be used to alter the color of the clay body, prepare a decorative base, and enhance the appearance of paints or glazes applied over it.

Food Safety: Before using this engobe on food-contact pieces, it is recommended to test the engobe, the glaze applied over it, and the clay body under your own application and firing conditions.

Application Notes

  • Surface Preparation: Apply the engobe to a clean, dust-free, leather-hard clay surface.
  • Brush Application: It can be used for localized patterns, decorative lines, and full-surface coverage. Apply each coat in a different direction to achieve an even surface.
  • Dipping Application: This method can be preferred to achieve more uniform, smooth surfaces without brush marks.
  • Drying: Allow the engobe-coated piece to dry completely before bisque firing.
  • Bisque Firing: Once drying is complete, fire the piece using a schedule suitable for the selected clay body.
  • Glazing: The natural matte appearance can be preserved, or a transparent or colored glaze can be applied after bisque firing.
  • Coloring: Different shades can be prepared using suitable pigments and oxides. Mixing ratios should be tested in advance.
  • Clay Compatibility: Incompatible shrinkage rates between the engobe and clay body may cause cracking, blistering, or separation from the surface.
Important Recommendation: The compatibility of the engobe with the clay body may vary depending on application thickness, clay moisture content, and firing schedule. Before large-scale application, test adhesion, color, shrinkage, and surface integrity on test tiles prepared with your own clay and fired under your kiln conditions.
