Verona Mug Ceramic Bisque

The Verona Mug is a versatile ceramic bisque form designed for workshops, studios, and custom decoration projects. Its smooth surface supports detailed painting and glazing, while the comfortable proportions make it ideal for functional mug designs once properly glazed and fired. With a 400 ml capacity, it suits everyday beverage service after the final firing stage.

IMPORTANT NOTE: This product is delivered as bisque. Glazing and a final firing are required to make it suitable for food contact.

Technical Details and Application

Glazing and Painting

  • Underglaze Painting: Refsan ready-to-use underglaze paints can be safely applied on both tile (faience) and ceramic bisque surfaces.
  • Ceramic Glazing: Ceramic glazes typically mature between 1040℃ and 1050℃, creating a smooth surface and improving durability.
  • Tile Glazing: Tile glazes are generally fired between 900℃ and 920℃, resulting in a finer, elegant, and decorative finish.

Firing

Our products are carefully bisque fired at 1050℃. Firing temperature and soak time can influence the surface characteristics and final appearance. Different kiln schedules may also cause slight visual changes, so testing is recommended before production runs.

Decorative Use with Acrylic Paint

  • Acrylic paints can be used for decorative painting; however, this method is not suitable for food contact.
  • After acrylic painting, applying a protective varnish is recommended for better resistance against external factors.
  • Acrylic decoration does not require firing and is intended for purely decorative use.

Handcrafted Nature and Possible Variations

Bisque items produced by slip casting or wheel throwing may show slight differences in thickness and dimensions. In casting, thinner and thicker zones can occur depending on the form and process. These variations reflect the handmade character of each piece.

Different clay bodies can also lead to natural tone differences. The bisque color may vary depending on the clay used. For example, white clay typically yields lighter tones, while red clay produces warmer, darker tones.

Durability and Use Notes

Durability is achieved after glazing and the final firing. Care and usage requirements may vary by finish. Ceramic pieces are generally more resistant to external factors when properly glazed, while acrylic-decorated surfaces may wear over time.

Key Points for Glazing and Firing

  • Clean and fully dry the piece before glazing.
  • Tile and ceramic glazes mature at different temperatures, so select the correct firing range for the glaze type.
  • For acrylic decoration, varnishing helps protect against external wear.
  • Because firing temperature can affect bisque tone, a test firing is recommended before full production.
