Technical Details and Applications

Painting and Glazing

  • Underglaze Decoration: Refsan ready underglaze paints can be safely used on both tile and ceramic bisque surfaces.
  • Ceramic Glazing: Ceramic glazes generally mature between 1040°C and 1050°C, creating a smooth and durable surface.
  • Tile Glazing: Tile glazes are typically fired between 900°C and 920°C, producing a refined and decorative finish.

Firing

Our products are carefully bisque fired at 1050°C. This firing temperature strengthens the ceramic structure and improves durability. Different firing conditions may affect the final surface appearance and aesthetic characteristics.

Decorative Painting with Acrylic

  • Acrylic paints can be used for decorative painting.
  • Warning: Acrylic painted surfaces are not suitable for food contact.
  • Applying protective varnish after painting is recommended.
  • Acrylic decoration does not require kiln firing and is intended for decorative purposes.

Possible Variations in Handmade Products

Bisque ceramics produced by casting or wheel forming may show slight variations in thickness and dimensions. These variations are natural results of the ceramic production process and reflect the handcrafted character of each piece.

Different clay bodies may also create natural tone differences. White clay produces lighter shades while red clay may result in darker and warmer tones.

Product Durability

Ceramic products become durable after glazing and final firing. However, maintenance and usage conditions may vary depending on the finishing technique. Glazed ceramic surfaces are generally resistant to external factors, while acrylic painted decorations may wear over time.

Important Notes for Glazing and Firing

  • The product must be cleaned and dried before glazing.
  • Ceramic and tile glazes mature at different temperatures, therefore correct firing temperature should be used.
  • After acrylic decoration, applying protective varnish helps protect the surface.
  • Different firing temperatures may affect the color of bisque ceramics, therefore test firing is recommended.
