Technical Details and Application

Painting and Glazing

Refsan underglaze ready-to-use paints are highly recommended for both ceramic and tile bisque applications. Glazing is essential for creating a hygienic, food-grade surface.

  • Ceramic Firing: Use ceramic-specific glazes and fire between 1040°C and 1050°C for a smooth, glass-like finish that is easy to clean.
  • Tile (Çini) Firing: If applying traditional tile art, fire between 900°C and 920°C for an elegant, decorative surface.

Acrylic Paint (Non-Food Use)

  • Can be painted with acrylics for decorative hobby projects that do not require kiln firing.
  • Safety Warning: Ramekins finished with acrylic paint are not food-safe and must not be used in ovens or for serving.
  • Apply a protective varnish post-painting to preserve the decorative finish.

Handcrafting and Material Authenticity

Our ramekins are fired at 1050°C to achieve a sturdy bisque state. Please note that products manufactured via slip casting may exhibit minor variations in thickness or structural nuances, which is a hallmark of handcrafted pottery.

Depending on the clay source (white or red clay), natural tone variations may be present, providing a unique character to each set.

Firing and Preparation Guidelines

  • Ensure all surfaces are clean and completely dry before glaze application.
  • Carefully monitor kiln temperatures as ceramic and tile glazes have different maturation points.
  • Pre-test your glazes, as firing temperatures can slightly shift the final bisque hue.
  • Proper firing technique is the user's responsibility to ensure the final product's quality.
