Mayco SY546 Fired Snow - Snow Effect 118 ml

Mayco SY546 Fired Snow is a decorative low-fire effect product that simulates the appearance of real snow by creating a matte, bright white, raised, and porous surface after firing. Its thick consistency produces dimensional, three-dimensional textures on the surface. In addition to winter- and Christmas-themed objects, it can be used to create fur, wool, and similar textural details on animal figures.

Not Food Safe: Because it creates a porous and textured surface after firing, it is not recommended for food-contact areas of plates, bowls, or similar items. It is suitable only for decorative surface applications.
Dilution Warning: Do not add water, as this may affect the product’s special consistency and raised surface effect. Mix thoroughly before application until a smooth and even consistency is achieved.

Application Notes

  • Mixing: Mix the product thoroughly before use until a smooth and even consistency is achieved.
  • Surface Preparation: The bisque or unfired glazed surface must be clean, dry, and free from dust before application.
  • Heavy Application: Apply the product generously rather than in a thin coat to create a pronounced, raised, and dimensional snow texture.
  • Thickness Effect: As the application thickness increases, the volume and textural definition of the snow effect may become more pronounced after firing.
  • Maximum Thickness: The product can be applied up to 2 cm thick to create a more raised surface.
  • Tool Selection: A palette knife can create sharp, dense textures; a sponge can produce irregular snow surfaces; a stiff brush can form fur-like details; and a squeeze bottle can create controlled raised patterns.
  • Dilution: Do not add water, as it may alter the product’s structure and reduce the raised effect created after firing.
  • Application Over Unfired Glaze: The product can be applied over an unfired glaze and fired together with it in a single firing.
  • Colored Effect: The product can be carefully mixed with underglazes to create textured surfaces in different colors. Check the result on a test piece before the main application.
  • Fur and Wool Texture: Fur- or wool-like surfaces can be created on figures such as lambs, dogs, and birds by using a stiff brush with stippling motions.
  • Firing: Once the application is complete and the surface has dried, fire the product at approximately 1000°C.
  • Decorative Use: Due to its porous and dimensional surface, the product should be used only on decorative objects and areas that do not come into contact with food.
  • Safety: Use appropriate personal protective equipment during application and ensure that the workspace is adequately ventilated.
  • Storage: Keep the container tightly closed and store at room temperature away from direct sunlight. Protect from freezing.
Important Recommendation: The volume, whiteness, surface texture, and porosity of the snow effect may vary depending on application thickness, the application tool used, the underlying glaze or color layer, and the firing schedule. Preparing test pieces with different application thicknesses before the main application is recommended.
