SP 1515 Storm - Artistic High-Fire Glaze

SP 1515 Storm is a reactive high-fire glaze that brings the gray-blue tones of stormy skies and the deep waves of the ocean to glazed surfaces. Cloud-like white patterns develop across the surface, while sand-colored transitions become more pronounced along the edges, giving each piece powerful movement, layered depth, and a distinctive artistic character.

Food Safe: This glaze is suitable for surfaces that come into contact with food when proper application and firing conditions are followed.

Application Notes

  • Product preparation: Mix the product thoroughly before application to distribute the pigments and cloud-effect-forming reactive components evenly throughout the liquid. Periodic remixing during application is recommended.
  • Brush application: The product can be applied directly to a clean, dry bisque-fired surface. To enhance the characteristic storm effect, apply three even coats over a white clay body and allow each coat to dry completely.
  • Application thickness: As the number of coats and glaze thickness increase, the cloud-like white patterns and gray-blue transitions may become more pronounced. Effects may appear weaker with very thin applications, while excessive glaze movement may occur with overly thick applications.
  • Pouring and dipping: For these methods, the consistency can be adjusted by adding approximately 5-10% water. Add water gradually to preserve the glaze coverage.
  • Reactive transitions: The reactive components may collect at different concentrations around edges, recessed areas, and raised details. This creates unique patterns and color transitions on every piece.
  • Clay body selection: Storm-blue tones and white patterns may appear more pronounced on white and light-colored high-fire clay bodies, while darker clay bodies may produce a deeper, more mineral-like surface.
  • Firing and cooling: The peak temperature, hold time, and cooling rate may alter the intensity of the cloud-like effects, sand-colored edge transitions, and overall glaze gloss.
  • Vertical forms: Because the reactive glaze may move during firing, a thinner and more controlled application is recommended near the base. Keep the glaze away from areas where it may come into contact with the kiln shelf.
  • Storage: Store the product in its tightly sealed original packaging at room temperature, away from direct sunlight.
  • Safety: Appropriate protective equipment should be used during application, and the product should be stored out of reach of children.
Important Recommendation: The appearance of reactive and artistic high-fire glazes may vary depending on the clay body, application thickness, number of coats, peak temperature, hold time, and cooling schedule. The sample appearance was achieved with three coats applied over a white clay body. Testing on sample tiles under your own clay and kiln conditions is recommended before the main application or batch production.
