SP 1399 Smoke - Artistic High-Fire Glaze

SP 1399 Smoke is a reactive, glossy-satin high-fire glaze that produces hazy smoke-grey tones. Semi-transparent greys deepen across flat and recessed surfaces, while edges, raised details, and textured areas break into warm caramel and brown tones, giving the form pronounced volume and natural movement.

Food Safe: This glaze is suitable for surfaces that come into contact with food when proper application and firing conditions are followed.

Application Notes

  • Breaking character: The smoke-grey tone may deepen in recessed areas, creating a misty appearance. On edges, raised details, and elevated surfaces, the glaze may become thinner and reveal more pronounced caramel and brown transitions.
  • Brush application: Applying 3 coats is recommended for a rich, layered surface. Allow the surface to dry completely between coats and apply each coat in a different direction.
  • Textured surfaces: The breaking effect may become more pronounced on stamped, relief, carved, and raised forms, emphasizing surface details.
  • Clay body selection: Grey tones may appear lighter and more opalescent on white high-fire clay bodies. Dark or grogged clay bodies may produce heavier, more rustic, and antique-looking results.
  • Dipping and pouring: Depending on the required application consistency, 5-10% water may be added. Add water gradually and in a controlled manner.
  • Mixing: Mix the product thoroughly before application to distribute the reactive components evenly.
Important Recommendation: The appearance of reactive glazes may vary depending on application thickness, clay body, kiln atmosphere, and cooling rate. Testing on a sample tile before the main application is recommended.
