SP 1381 Cunda - Artistic High-Fire Glaze

SP 1381 Cunda is a reactive, glossy-satin high-fire glaze that produces deep sea blue, hazy blue, and light variegated tones. Blue tones become richer across recessed and flat areas, while lighter transitions develop over edges, raised details, and elevated areas to give the form visual depth. It creates fresh, distinctive surfaces on modern, Mediterranean-inspired, and rustic forms.

Food Safe: This glaze is suitable for surfaces that come into contact with food when proper application and firing conditions are followed.

Application and Aegean Effect Notes

  • Reactive transitions: Deep blue tones become richer in recessed areas, while the glaze may become thinner over raised and elevated areas, producing lighter, hazier variations.
  • Brush application: Applying 3 coats is recommended for a rich, layered blue surface. Allow the surface to dry completely between coats and apply each coat in a different direction.
  • Clay body selection: Blue tones and lighter variegated transitions appear clearer on white high-fire clay bodies. Speckled or grogged clay bodies may produce more rustic, natural-looking surfaces.
  • Application thickness: Thicker applications may deepen the blue tones and increase pooling. Lighter transitions may appear over thinly glazed edges and raised details.
  • Dipping and pouring: Depending on the required application consistency, 5-10% water may be added. Add water gradually and in a controlled manner.
Important Recommendation: The appearance of reactive glazes may vary depending on application thickness, clay body, kiln atmosphere, and cooling rate. Testing on a sample tile before the main application is recommended.
