SP 1374 Kaputaş - Artistic High-Fire Glaze

SP 1374 Kaputaş is a reactive, satin-matte high-fire glaze that produces pastel turquoise, hazy white, and light sea tones. The turquoise becomes richer across recessed and flat areas, while light, creamy transitions develop over edges, raised details, and elevated areas to give the form natural depth. It creates fresh, balanced surfaces on modern, minimalist, and Mediterranean-inspired forms.

Food Safe: This glaze is suitable for surfaces that come into contact with food when proper application and firing conditions are followed.

Application and Kaputaş Effect Notes

  • Reactive transitions: The pastel turquoise becomes richer in recessed areas, while the glaze may become thinner over raised and elevated areas, producing hazy white and light cream variations.
  • Brush application: Applying 3 coats is recommended for a rich, layered turquoise surface. Allow the surface to dry completely between coats and apply each coat in a different direction.
  • Clay body selection: Turquoise and lighter transitions appear cleaner and clearer on white high-fire clay bodies. Speckled or grogged clay bodies may produce more rustic surfaces with a natural coastal character.
  • Application thickness: Thicker applications may deepen the turquoise tone and increase pooling. Lighter, creamier transitions may appear over thinly glazed edges and raised details.
  • Dipping and pouring: Depending on the required application consistency, 5-10% water may be added. Add water gradually and in a controlled manner.
Important Recommendation: The appearance of reactive and satin-matte glazes may vary depending on application thickness, clay body, kiln atmosphere, firing schedule, and cooling rate. Testing on a sample tile before the main application is recommended.
