SP 1361 Asos - Artistic High-Fire Glaze

SP 1361 Asos is a reactive, satin-matte high-fire glaze that produces sea green, teal, sandy brown, and oxide tones. Green-blue tones become richer across recessed and flat areas, while earthy, oxidized-metal transitions develop over edges, raised details, and textured areas to give the form natural depth. It creates distinctive surfaces on modern, rustic, and natural stone-inspired forms.

Food Safe: This glaze is suitable for surfaces that come into contact with food when proper application and firing conditions are followed.

Application and Asos Effect Notes

  • Reactive transitions: Green-blue and teal tones become richer in recessed areas, while the glaze may become thinner over raised and elevated areas, producing sandy brown and oxide-toned transitions.
  • Brush application: Applying 3 coats is recommended for a rich, layered surface. Allow the surface to dry completely between coats and apply each coat in a different direction.
  • Clay body selection: Green-blue and earthy transitions appear cleaner and clearer on white high-fire clay bodies. Speckled, grogged, or iron-rich clay bodies may produce more rustic and substantial-looking surfaces.
  • Application thickness: Thicker applications may deepen the green-blue tones and increase pooling. Earthy, oxide-like transitions may appear over thinly glazed edges and textured areas.
  • Dipping and pouring: Depending on the required application consistency, 5-10% water may be added. Add water gradually and in a controlled manner.
Important Recommendation: The appearance of reactive and satin-matte glazes may vary depending on application thickness, clay body, kiln atmosphere, firing schedule, and cooling rate. Testing on a sample tile before the main application is recommended.
