SP 1340 Tundra - Artistic High-Fire Glaze

SP 1340 Tundra is a glossy, reactive high-fire glaze that produces deep anthracite, smoky blue-grey, and warm brown-bronze tones. Blue-black tones become richer across recessed and flat areas, while brown and bronze transitions develop over edges, raised details, and elevated areas to give the form strong contrast. It creates deep, distinctive surfaces on modern, industrial, and rustic forms.

Application and Tundra Effect Notes

• Reactive transitions: Smoky blue-black and anthracite tones may deepen where the glaze pools in recessed areas, while the glaze may become thinner over raised and elevated areas, producing brown and bronze transitions.
• Brush application: Applying 3 coats is recommended for a rich, layered surface. Allow the surface to dry completely between coats and apply each coat in a different direction.
• Clay body selection: Blue-grey variations and bronze transitions appear more pronounced on white high-fire clay bodies. Speckled, grogged, or dark clay bodies may produce more rustic and substantial-looking surfaces.
• Application thickness: Thicker applications may deepen the blue-black tones and increase pooling. Brown-bronze transitions may appear more pronounced over thinly glazed edges and raised details.
• Flow: The glaze may become fluid at high firing temperatures. Avoid excessively thick application on vertical forms and leave an adequate unglazed safety margin around the base of the piece.
• Dipping and pouring: Depending on the required application consistency, 5-10% water may be added. Add water gradually and in a controlled manner.
