SP 1271 Kula - Artistic High-Fire Glaze

SP 1271 Kula is an artistic high-fire glaze that brings the natural depth and distinctive surface effects of volcanic earth to sculpted forms. During high firing, it develops warm earth tones with rusty brown and amber transitions, giving each piece a unique, natural appearance. Its ready-to-use liquid form helps create dynamic surfaces with visual depth in rustic, contemporary, and decorative work.

Food Safe: This glaze is suitable for surfaces that come into contact with food when proper application and firing conditions are followed.

Application and Storage Notes

  • Brush application: The product can be applied directly with a brush. Applying 2-3 coats is recommended for a balanced, opaque surface with pronounced transitions. Allow the surface to dry between coats and apply each coat in a different direction.
  • Dipping and spraying: The product may be too thick for these methods. Gradually add 5-10% water in a controlled manner to achieve suitable flow.
  • Clay body selection: The final glaze color and surface character may vary depending on the color and composition of the high-fire clay body. Amber and rusty brown transitions may appear more pronounced on light-colored clay bodies.
  • Application thickness: Thin applications may create a calmer surface with lighter tones. Thicker applications may intensify color transitions, dark areas, and artistic movement.
  • Preparation: Mix the product thoroughly before use to distribute the color-producing components evenly. If settling occurs during storage, strain the product before use when necessary.
  • Storage: Store the product at room temperature with the lid tightly closed, protected from freezing and direct sunlight.
Important Recommendation: The final color, surface effect, and transitional character of artistic glazes may vary depending on clay body composition, application thickness, number of coats, kiln firing schedule, and cooling conditions. Testing on a sample tile under your own working conditions before the main application or production run is recommended.
