Application and Phuket Effect Notes

  • Speckled character: The density, size, and distribution of the sand-colored speckles may vary depending on application thickness and firing conditions.
  • Brush application: Applying 3 coats is recommended for a balanced, uniform surface. Allow the surface to dry completely between coats and apply each coat in a different direction.
  • Mixing: Mix the product thoroughly before application to distribute the speckle-forming particles evenly across the surface. Stir again at regular intervals during application.
  • Clay body selection: The cream tone and sand-colored speckles appear cleaner on white and light-colored high-fire clay bodies. Speckled or grogged clay bodies may produce more rustic surfaces.
  • Application thickness: Thicker applications may deepen the cream tone and make the speckles more pronounced. With thinner applications, the underlying clay color may have a greater influence on the surface appearance.
  • Textured surfaces: Speckle-forming components may concentrate in recessed and raised areas, making the texture of the form more pronounced.
  • Dipping and pouring: Depending on the required application consistency, 5-10% water may be added. Add water gradually and in a controlled manner.
Important Recommendation: The appearance of semi-matte and speckled glazes may vary depending on application thickness, clay body, kiln atmosphere, firing schedule, and cooling rate. Testing on a sample tile before the main application is recommended.
