SP 1222 Batumi - Artistic High-Fire Glaze

SP 1222 Batumi is an artistic high-fire glaze that produces reactive transitions in deep navy blue, teal, emerald green, and moss tones. Depending on application thickness, dark green and blue may pool in recessed areas, while mustard, caramel, and earthy breaks may develop over edges and raised details. It creates deep, dynamic surfaces on tableware, decorative forms, and naturally textured designs.

Food Safe: This glaze is suitable for surfaces that come into contact with food when proper application and firing conditions are followed.

Application and Batumi Effect Notes

  • Reactive transitions: The distribution of navy blue, teal, green, and earth tones may vary depending on application thickness, form, and firing conditions.
  • Brush application: Applying 3 coats is recommended for a rich, layered surface. Allow the surface to dry completely between coats and apply each coat in a different direction.
  • Breaking effect: The glaze may concentrate into dark green and blue tones in recessed areas. Over edges, raised details, and elevated areas, it may become thinner and reveal mustard, caramel, and earthy tones.
  • Clay body selection: Green and blue transitions appear more vivid on white high-fire clay bodies. Speckled, grogged, or iron-rich clay bodies may produce more rustic surfaces.
  • Application thickness: Dark pooling and reactive variations may intensify in thicker applications. Warm earth tones may become more pronounced over thinly glazed edges and raised details.
  • Mixing: Mix the product thoroughly before application to distribute the color- and effect-forming components evenly across the surface. Stir again at regular intervals during application.
  • Dipping and pouring: Depending on the required application consistency, 5-10% water may be added. Add water gradually and in a controlled manner.
Important Recommendation: The appearance of artistic and reactive glazes may vary depending on application thickness, clay body, kiln atmosphere, firing schedule, and cooling rate. Testing on a sample tile before the main application is recommended.
