SP 1215 Nevada - Artistic High-Fire Glaze

SP 1215 Nevada is an artistic high-fire glaze that produces reactive transitions in mink, sand beige, stone grey, and warm brown tones. Depending on application thickness, a mineral-stone appearance may develop across broad surfaces, while brown and bronze breaks may appear over edges and raised details. It creates natural, layered surfaces on tableware, decorative forms, and rustic designs.

Food Safe: This glaze is suitable for surfaces that come into contact with food when proper application and firing conditions are followed.

Application and Nevada Effect Notes

  • Reactive transitions: The distribution of mink, stone grey, sand beige, and brown tones may vary depending on application thickness, form, and firing conditions.
  • Brush application: Applying 3 coats is recommended for a rich, layered surface. Allow the surface to dry completely between coats and apply each coat in a different direction.
  • Breaking effect: The glaze may become thinner over edges and raised details, revealing brown and bronze tones. Lighter, mineral-like pooling may develop in recessed areas.
  • Clay body selection: Sand and stone tones appear cleaner on white high-fire clay bodies. Speckled, grogged, or dark clay bodies may produce more rustic surfaces.
  • Flow: Due to its reactive character, the glaze may move in thicker applications. Controlled application near the base is especially recommended on vertical forms.
  • Mixing: Mix the product thoroughly before application to distribute the color- and effect-forming components evenly across the surface. Stir again at regular intervals during application.
  • Dipping and pouring: Depending on the required application consistency, 5-10% water may be added. Add water gradually and in a controlled manner.
Important Recommendation: The appearance of artistic and reactive glazes may vary depending on application thickness, clay body, kiln atmosphere, firing schedule, and cooling rate. Testing on a sample tile before the main application is recommended.
