SP 1213 Gölyazı - Artistic Crystalline High-Fire Glaze

SP 1213 Gölyazı is a reactive crystalline high-fire effect glaze named after the lakeside town of Gölyazı in Bursa, capturing the crystalline texture of water and hazy shoreline tones. At high firing temperatures, it produces deep, textured lake-blue tones across central areas, while breaking into cream and white over edges, raised details, and contoured surfaces to give the form pronounced depth. Its crystalline structure interacts with light, creating a dynamic appearance reminiscent of reflections shimmering across the water.

Food Safe: This glaze is suitable for surfaces that come into contact with food when proper application and firing conditions are followed.

Application Notes

  • Breaking character: The glaze may become thinner over edges and raised areas, producing white or ivory breaks. These transitions emphasize the curves and surface details of the form.
  • Brush application: Applying 3 coats is recommended to achieve deep lake-blue tones and a crystalline surface effect. Allow the surface to dry completely between coats and apply each coat in a different direction.
  • Clay body selection: Crystalline transitions appear brighter and clearer on white high-fire clay bodies. Speckled or grogged clay bodies may produce more rustic and dynamic results.
  • Firing character: Due to its reactive character, the glaze may move at high temperatures. With thicker applications, leave an adequate unglazed safety margin around the base and lower bisque edges to protect against glaze flow.
  • Dipping and spraying: Depending on the required application consistency, 5-10% water may be added. Add water gradually and in a controlled manner.
Important Recommendation: The appearance of reactive and crystalline glazes may vary depending on application thickness, clay body, kiln atmosphere, and cooling rate. Testing on a sample tile before the main application is recommended.
