SP 1209 Frutti - Artistic High-Fire Glaze

SP 1209 Frutti is a glossy, reactive high-fire effect glaze inspired by the rich colors of tropical fruit and the fluid-looking texture it develops after firing. It produces rich caramel and amber tones across central and recessed areas, while breaking into icy blue and hazy grey transitions over edges, raised details, and contoured surfaces. Its complex mineral composition creates layered surfaces with visual depth that may vary with every application.

Food Safe: This glaze is suitable for surfaces that come into contact with food when proper application and firing conditions are followed.

Application Notes

  • Variegated character: The glaze may become thinner over raised and elevated areas, revealing gold, mustard, and caramel tones. It may pool in recessed areas, producing reactive blue and grey variations.
  • Brush application: Applying 3 coats is recommended for a rich, layered surface effect. Allow the surface to dry completely between coats and apply each coat in a different direction.
  • Clay body selection: Blue and grey crystal-like transitions appear more vivid on white high-fire clay bodies. Speckled or grogged clay bodies may produce more rustic and dynamic results.
  • Flow: Due to its reactive character, the glaze may move at high temperatures. With thicker applications, leave an adequate unglazed safety margin around the base and lower bisque edges to protect against glaze flow.
  • Dipping and pouring: Depending on the required application consistency, 5-10% water may be added. Add water gradually and in a controlled manner.
Important Recommendation: The appearance of reactive glazes may vary depending on application thickness, clay body, kiln atmosphere, and cooling rate. Testing on a sample tile before the main application is recommended.
