SP 1128 Antique Matte Green - Artistic High-Fire Glaze

SP 1128 Antique Matte Green is a high-fire effect glaze that gives surfaces an aged, antique, and natural appearance. It produces a muted sage-green tone and matte texture across flat surfaces, while breaking into bronze, black, and metallic brown tones over edges, raised details, and recessed areas to create strong contrast. Its variable surface character produces distinctive, rustic results with every application.

Application and Aged Effect Notes

  • Breaking character: The glaze may become thinner over raised details, projections, and edges, revealing the underlying dark metallic black and brown tones. It may pool in recessed areas, intensifying the matte sage-green tone.
  • Brush application: Applying 3 coats is recommended for a rich, balanced antique appearance. Allow sufficient drying time between coats to support surface integrity.
  • Clay body selection: The green tone and edge breaks appear more pronounced on white high-fire clay bodies. Speckled or grogged clay bodies may produce more dramatic, rustic results.
  • Dipping and spraying: Depending on the required application consistency, 5-10% water may be added in a controlled manner. Excessive dilution may reduce color intensity and the reactive effect.
  • Preparation: Mix the product thoroughly before use to distribute the glaze components evenly and produce a balanced surface effect.
Important Recommendation: The final appearance of reactive and effect glazes may vary depending on application thickness, clay body, kiln firing schedule, and cooling rate. Testing on a sample tile under your own working conditions before the main application is recommended to evaluate the aged texture and color breaks.
