SP 1125 Tenmoku Brown is an iron-rich, reactive high-fire glaze inspired by the characteristic Tenmoku surfaces of East Asian tradition. It produces deep chocolate-brown and near-black tones, while sharp edges, raised details, and thinly applied areas may break into caramel, rust, and reddish-brown hues. Its glossy, glass-like surface develops rich depth under light, giving contemporary and rustic designs a bold character.

Application Notes

• Number of coats and effect: Approximately 3 coats may be applied by brush. Near-black tones become more pronounced as the glaze thickens, while rust, caramel, and reddish-brown breaks may develop over thinly glazed edges, curves, and raised details.
• Flow: Tenmoku-style glazes may become fluid at high temperatures. Leave an adequate unglazed area around the lower section of vertical forms and protect the kiln shelf.
• Clay body selection: White high-fire clay bodies may produce brighter, more pronounced tonal transitions. Dark or iron-rich clay bodies may give the surface a deeper, more intense character.
• Mixing: Mix the product thoroughly before use to prevent the iron-rich pigments from settling and to achieve a uniform surface.
• Consistency adjustment: Add water gradually and in a controlled manner for dipping and spraying, adjusting the product’s flow according to the application method.
• Storage: Store the product at room temperature with the lid tightly closed and away from direct sunlight.
