SG 1515 Storm is a reactive artistic high-fire glaze that brings the gray-blue tones of stormy skies and the deep waves of the ocean to pottery surfaces. Cloud-like white halos developing across the surface and sand-colored transitions becoming more pronounced around the edges give every piece powerful movement, layered depth, and a distinctive artistic character.

Application Notes

• Product preparation: Mix the product thoroughly before application to distribute the pigments and cloud-effect reactive components evenly throughout the liquid. Stirring again at regular intervals during application is recommended.
• Brush application: The product can be applied directly over a clean and dry bisque surface. To support the characteristic storm effect, apply three even coats over white clay and allow each coat to dry completely.
• Application thickness: As the number of coats and glaze thickness increase, the cloud-like white halos and gray-blue transitions may become more pronounced. Effects may appear weaker when applied too thinly, while excessively thick application may increase glaze movement.
• Pouring and dipping: For these methods, the consistency can be adjusted by adding approximately 5-10% water. Water should be added gradually while preserving the glaze coverage.
• Reactive transitions: The reactive components may collect at different intensities around edges, recesses, and raised areas of the form. This creates unique halos and color transitions on every piece.
• Clay body selection: Storm-blue tones and white halos may appear more distinct on white and light-colored high-fire clay bodies, while dark clay bodies may produce a deeper, more mineral-like surface.
• Firing and cooling: Peak temperature, hold time, and cooling rate may alter the intensity of the cloud-like effects, sand-colored edge transitions, and overall glaze gloss.
• Vertical forms: Because the reactive glaze may move during firing, a thinner and more controlled application is recommended near the base. Keep the glaze away from areas where it could come into contact with the kiln shelf.
