SG 1500 Tenmoku - Ceramingo Artistic High-Fire Glaze

SG 1500 Tenmoku is a satin-matte artistic high-fire glaze with an iron oxide character, producing mustard, amber, and burnt-earth tones. It creates warm, mineral-like colors across flat surfaces, while dark brown transitions develop around edges, raised details, and sharp lines to emphasize the contours of the pottery form.

Food Safe: This glaze is suitable for surfaces that come into contact with food when proper application and firing conditions are followed.

Application Notes

  • Color-breaking character: Mustard, amber, and burnt-earth tones may intensify across flat and recessed areas, while darker brown transitions may develop around edges, raised details, and elevated areas.
  • Brush application: For a saturated and balanced surface, applying 3 coats is recommended. Allow the surface to dry completely between coats and apply each coat in a different direction.
  • Textured surfaces: The color-breaking effect may become more pronounced on relief, carved, and raised forms, emphasizing the surface details.
  • Clay body selection: Amber tones appear warmer and more distinct on white high-fire clay bodies. Dark, iron-rich, or grogged clay bodies may produce more rustic, darker, and metallic-looking results.
  • Dipping and pouring: Depending on the required application consistency, 5-10% water may be added. Add water gradually and in controlled amounts.
  • Mixing: Mix the product thoroughly before application to distribute the iron oxide and other reactive components evenly.
Important Recommendation: The appearance of reactive glazes with an iron oxide character may vary depending on application thickness, the clay body, kiln atmosphere, and cooling rate. Testing on a sample tile before the main application is recommended.
