SG 1399 Smoke is a reactive artistic high-fire glaze that creates misty smoke-gray tones with a gloss-satin finish. Semi-transparent gray tones deepen across flat and recessed surfaces, while edges, raised details, and textured areas break toward warm caramel and brown tones, giving pottery forms pronounced dimension and natural movement.

Application Notes

• Color-breaking character: The smoke-gray tone may deepen in recessed areas, creating a misty appearance. The glaze may become thinner around edges, raised details, and elevated areas, emphasizing caramel and brown transitions.
• Brush application: For a saturated and layered surface, applying 3 coats is recommended. Allow the surface to dry completely between coats and apply each coat in a different direction.
• Textured surfaces: The color-breaking effect may become more pronounced on stamped, relief, carved, and raised forms, emphasizing the surface details.
• Clay body selection: Gray tones may appear lighter and more opalescent on white high-fire clay bodies. Dark or grogged clay bodies may produce heavier, more rustic, and antique-looking results.
