SG 1394 Abant - Ceramingo Artistic High-Fire Glaze

SG 1394 Abant is a glossy, reactive artistic high-fire glaze that creates warm caramel, tan, and burnt-earth tones. It produces saturated caramel and brown tones across flat surfaces, while dark chestnut transitions develop around edges, raised details, and contoured areas to give the form greater depth. Its glass-like gloss and variegated surface character produce striking results on rustic and natural pottery forms.

Food Safe: This glaze is suitable for surfaces that come into contact with food when proper application and firing conditions are followed.

Application and Abant Effect Notes

  • Color-breaking character: The caramel tone may deepen and pool in recessed areas, while the glaze may become thinner across raised and elevated areas, creating darker brown and chestnut transitions.
  • Brush application: For a saturated and glossy surface, applying 3 coats is recommended. Allow the surface to dry completely between coats and apply each coat in a different direction.
  • Clay body selection: Colors appear clearer and more vivid on white high-fire clay bodies. Dark or grogged clay bodies may produce more rustic, substantial, and natural-looking surfaces.
  • Application thickness: Caramel and brown tones may deepen with thicker applications. Darker reactive transitions may develop around thinly coated edges and raised details.
  • Dipping and pouring: Depending on the required application consistency, 5-10% water may be added. Add water gradually and in controlled amounts.
Important Recommendation: The appearance of reactive glazes may vary depending on application thickness, the clay body, kiln atmosphere, and cooling rate. Testing on a sample tile before the main application is recommended.
