SG 1381 Cunda - Ceramingo Artistic High-Fire Glaze

SG 1381 Cunda is a reactive artistic high-fire glaze that creates deep ocean blue, misty blue, and lightly variegated tones with a gloss-satin finish. Blue tones become more saturated across flat and recessed areas, while lighter transitions develop around edges, raised details, and elevated areas to give the form visual depth. It produces fresh, distinctive surfaces on modern, Mediterranean-inspired, and rustic pottery forms.

Food Safe: This glaze is suitable for surfaces that come into contact with food when proper application and firing conditions are followed.

Application and Aegean Effect Notes

  • Reactive transitions: Deep blue tones become more saturated in recessed areas, while the glaze may become thinner across raised and elevated areas, creating lighter and mistier variegation.
  • Brush application: For a saturated and layered blue surface, applying 3 coats is recommended. Allow the surface to dry completely between coats and apply each coat in a different direction.
  • Clay body selection: Blue tones and light variegated transitions appear clearer on white high-fire clay bodies. Speckled or grogged clay bodies may produce more rustic and natural-looking surfaces.
  • Application thickness: Thicker applications may deepen the blue tones and increase pooling. Lighter transitions may develop around thinly coated edges and raised details.
  • Dipping and pouring: Depending on the required application consistency, 5-10% water may be added. Add water gradually and in controlled amounts.
Important Recommendation: The appearance of reactive glazes may vary depending on application thickness, the clay body, kiln atmosphere, and cooling rate. Testing on a sample tile before the main application is recommended.
