SG 1378 Kilyos - Ceramingo Artistic High-Fire Glaze

SG 1378 Kilyos is a reactive artistic high-fire glaze that creates smoky sea green, smoky gray, and light moss tones with a satin-matte finish. Green-gray tones become more saturated across flat and recessed areas, while lighter moss transitions develop around edges, raised details, and textured areas to give the form natural movement. It produces deep, distinctive surfaces on modern, rustic, and handcrafted pottery forms.

Food Safe: This glaze is suitable for surfaces that come into contact with food when proper application and firing conditions are followed.

Application and Kilyos Effect Notes

  • Reactive transitions: Green-gray tones may deepen when the glaze collects in recessed areas, while the glaze may become thinner across raised and elevated areas, creating lighter, variegated moss tones.
  • Brush application: For a saturated and layered surface, applying 3 coats is recommended. Allow the surface to dry completely between coats and apply each coat in a different direction.
  • Clay body selection: Smoky green and gray transitions appear clearer on white high-fire clay bodies. Speckled, grogged, or dark-colored clay bodies may produce more rustic and substantial surfaces.
  • Application thickness: Thicker applications may deepen the green-gray tones and increase pooling. Lighter transitions may develop around thinly coated edges and raised details.
  • Dipping and pouring: Depending on the required application consistency, 5-10% water may be added. Add water gradually and in controlled amounts.
Important Recommendation: The appearance of reactive and satin-matte glazes may vary depending on application thickness, the clay body, kiln atmosphere, and cooling rate. Testing on a sample tile before the main application is recommended.
