SG 1374 Kaputaş - Artistic High-Fire Glaze

SG 1374 Kaputaş is a reactive artistic high-fire glaze that creates pastel turquoise, misty white, and light ocean tones with a satin-matte finish. Turquoise becomes more saturated across flat and recessed areas, while light, creamy transitions develop around edges, raised details, and elevated areas to give the form natural depth. It produces fresh and balanced surfaces on modern, minimalist, and Mediterranean-inspired pottery forms.

Food Safe: This glaze is suitable for surfaces that come into contact with food when proper application and firing conditions are followed.

Application and Kaputaş Effect Notes

  • Reactive transitions: Pastel turquoise becomes more saturated in recessed areas, while the glaze may become thinner across raised and elevated areas, creating misty white and light cream variegation.
  • Brush application: For a saturated and layered turquoise surface, applying 3 coats is recommended. Allow the surface to dry completely between coats and apply each coat in a different direction.
  • Clay body selection: Turquoise and light-colored transitions appear cleaner and clearer on white high-fire clay bodies. Speckled or grogged clay bodies may produce more rustic surfaces with a natural coastal character.
  • Application thickness: Thicker applications may deepen the turquoise tone and increase pooling. Lighter and creamier transitions may develop around thinly coated edges and raised details.
  • Dipping and pouring: Depending on the required application consistency, 5-10% water may be added. Add water gradually and in controlled amounts.
Important Recommendation: The appearance of reactive and satin-matte glazes may vary depending on application thickness, the clay body, kiln atmosphere, firing schedule, and cooling rate. Testing on a sample tile before the main application is recommended.
