SG 1364 Hedgehog - Ceramingo Artistic High-Fire Glaze

SG 1364 Hedgehog is a satin-matte artistic high-fire glaze that creates warm earth tones, dark brown shades, and natural mineral speckles. Dark speckles developing over a light-colored base give the surface a natural stone and mineral texture. It produces balanced, distinctive surfaces on organic, rustic, and nature-inspired pottery forms.

Food Safe: This glaze is suitable for surfaces that come into contact with food when proper application and firing conditions are followed.

Application and Speckled Texture Notes

  • Speckled character: Dark mineral speckles developing across the surface during firing may give every piece a natural and distinctive appearance. Speckle intensity may vary according to application thickness.
  • Brush application: For a saturated and distinct mineral texture, applying 3 coats over white clay is recommended. Allow the surface to dry completely between coats and apply each coat in a different direction.
  • Mixing: Mix the product thoroughly before application to distribute the speckles and reactive pigments evenly across the surface. Stir again at regular intervals during application.
  • Clay body selection: Speckles appear more distinct and contrasted on white high-fire clay bodies. Dark, speckled, or grogged clay bodies may produce more rustic and substantial surfaces.
  • Application thickness: Thicker applications may produce a more saturated base tone and denser-looking speckles. With thinner applications, the underlying clay color may have a stronger influence on the surface.
  • Dipping and pouring: Depending on the required application consistency, 5-10% water may be added. Add water gradually and in controlled amounts.
Important Recommendation: The appearance of speckled and mineral-textured glazes may vary depending on application thickness, the clay body, kiln atmosphere, firing schedule, and cooling rate. Testing on a sample tile before the main application is recommended.
