SG 1361 Assos - Ceramingo Artistic High-Fire Glaze

SG 1361 Assos is a reactive artistic high-fire glaze that creates sea green, teal, sandy brown, and oxide tones with a satin-matte finish. Green-blue tones become more saturated across flat and recessed areas, while earthy, oxidized-metal transitions develop around edges, raised details, and textured areas to give the form natural depth. It produces distinctive surfaces on modern and rustic pottery forms with a natural stone aesthetic.

Food Safe: This glaze is suitable for surfaces that come into contact with food when proper application and firing conditions are followed.

Application and Assos Effect Notes

  • Reactive transitions: Green-blue and teal tones become more saturated in recessed areas, while the glaze may become thinner across raised and elevated areas, creating sandy brown and oxide-toned transitions.
  • Brush application: For a saturated and layered surface, applying 3 coats is recommended. Allow the surface to dry completely between coats and apply each coat in a different direction.
  • Clay body selection: Green-blue and earthy transitions appear cleaner and clearer on white high-fire clay bodies. Speckled, grogged, or iron-rich clay bodies may produce more rustic and substantial surfaces.
  • Application thickness: Thicker applications may deepen the green-blue tones and increase pooling. Earthy, oxide-like transitions may develop around thinly coated edges and textured areas.
  • Dipping and pouring: Depending on the required application consistency, 5-10% water may be added. Add water gradually and in controlled amounts.
Important Recommendation: The appearance of reactive and satin-matte glazes may vary depending on application thickness, the clay body, kiln atmosphere, firing schedule, and cooling rate. Testing on a sample tile before the main application is recommended.
