SG 1340 Tundra is a glossy, reactive artistic high-fire glaze that creates deep anthracite, smoky blue-gray, and warm brown-bronze tones. Blue-black tones become more saturated across flat and recessed areas, while brown and bronze transitions develop around edges, raised details, and elevated areas to give the form strong contrast. It produces deep and distinctive surfaces on modern, industrial, and rustic pottery forms.

Application and Tundra Effect Notes

• Reactive transitions: Smoky blue-black and anthracite tones may deepen when the glaze collects in recessed areas, while the glaze may become thinner across raised and elevated areas, creating brown and bronze-colored transitions.
• Brush application: For a saturated and layered surface, applying 3 coats is recommended. Allow the surface to dry completely between coats and apply each coat in a different direction.
• Clay body selection: Blue-gray variegation and bronze transitions appear more distinct on white high-fire clay bodies. Speckled, grogged, or dark-colored clay bodies may produce more rustic and substantial surfaces.
• Application thickness: Thicker applications may deepen the blue-black tones and increase pooling. Brown-bronze transitions may become more pronounced around thinly coated edges and raised details.
• Flow: The glaze may move at high firing temperatures. Avoid excessively thick application on vertical forms and leave a sufficient unglazed safety margin at the base.
• Dipping and pouring: Depending on the required application consistency, 5-10% water may be added. Add water gradually and in controlled amounts.
