SG 1268 Leopard is a glossy, reactive artistic high-fire glaze that creates dark green, blue, and brown speckles over a warm mustard-yellow base. Irregular speckles and variegated transitions developing during firing create a dynamic surface reminiscent of a leopard pattern. It produces powerful and distinctive surfaces on decorative forms, modern tableware, and eye-catching designs.

Application and Leopard Effect Notes

• Reactive speckles: The size, intensity, and distribution of the dark green, blue, and brown speckles may vary depending on application thickness and firing conditions.
• Brush application: For a saturated and balanced pattern, applying 3 coats is recommended. Allow the surface to dry completely between coats and apply each coat in a different direction.
• Mixing: Mix the product thoroughly before application to distribute the pattern-forming reactive components evenly across the surface. Stir again at regular intervals during application.
• Clay body selection: The mustard-colored base and dark speckles appear more distinct on white high-fire and porcelain clay bodies. Speckled, grogged, or dark-colored clay bodies may produce more rustic surfaces.
• Application thickness: Dark speckles and variegated transitions may intensify with thicker applications. Lighter mustard and earth tones may develop around thinly coated edges and raised details.
• Flow: Due to its reactive character, pattern movement and glaze flow may increase on vertical surfaces. Leave a sufficient unglazed safety margin at the base.
• Dipping and pouring: Depending on the required application consistency, 5-10% water may be added. Add water gradually and in controlled amounts.
