SG 1220 Lobelia - Ceramingo Artistic Crystalline High-Fire Glaze

SG 1220 Lobelia is a glossy, crystalline high-fire glaze that creates reactive transitions in deep cobalt blue, navy, turquoise and green tones. Depending on the application thickness, dark navy may pool in recessed areas, while turquoise and ice-blue breaks can develop along edges and raised details. It produces deep, dynamic surfaces on tableware, decorative forms and eye-catching designs.

Food Safe: This glaze is suitable for surfaces that come into contact with food when proper application and firing conditions are followed.

Application and Lobelia Effect Notes

  • Reactive character: The distribution of cobalt blue, navy, turquoise and green tones may vary depending on the application thickness, form and firing conditions.
  • Brush application: Three coats are recommended for a rich and layered surface. Allow each coat to dry completely and apply every coat in a different direction.
  • Breaking effect: The glaze may concentrate into dark navy tones in recessed areas. It may become thinner along edges, raised details and high points, creating turquoise and ice-blue transitions.
  • Crystalline appearance: The intensity of crystal-like formations may vary depending on the firing schedule, peak temperature and cooling rate.
  • Clay selection: Navy and turquoise transitions appear brighter on white high-fire clay bodies. Speckled, grogged or dark clay bodies may produce more rustic surfaces.
  • Application thickness: Thicker applications may intensify dark pooling and crystalline effects. Light turquoise tones may become more prominent along thinly coated edges and raised details.
  • Mixing: Mix the product thoroughly before application to distribute the color- and effect-producing components evenly. Continue mixing periodically during application.
  • Dipping and pouring: Depending on the required consistency, 5-10% water may be added. Add water gradually and in a controlled manner.
Important Recommendation: The appearance of artistic, reactive and crystalline glazes may vary depending on the application thickness, clay body, kiln atmosphere, firing schedule and cooling rate. Testing on a sample tile is recommended before the main application.
