SG 1129 Maroon - Ceramingo Artistic High-Fire Glaze

SG 1129 Maroon is a reactive high-fire glaze that creates rich burgundy and black-cherry tones. The color intensifies in recessed and thickly coated areas, while the glaze may become thinner along edges, raised details and high points, developing crystalline breaks in cream and white tones.

Food Safe: This glaze is suitable for surfaces that come into contact with food when proper application and firing conditions are followed.

Application Notes

  • Product preparation: Mix the product thoroughly before application to distribute the reactive components evenly.
  • Surface preparation: The bisque surface must be clean, dry and free from dust before application.
  • Brush application: Three coats over white bisque are recommended for rich color and distinct effect depth. Allow each coat to dry completely and apply every coat in a different direction.
  • Reactive transitions: Black-cherry tones may intensify in recessed and thickly coated areas. The glaze may become thinner along edges, raised details and high points, creating crystalline cream or white breaks.
  • Application thickness: Color intensity and edge breaks may vary according to glaze thickness. Apply the coats evenly and with controlled thickness across the form for a balanced result.
  • Dipping and spray application: Depending on the required consistency, 5-10% water may be added. Add water gradually and in a controlled manner.
  • Clay selection: Black-cherry tones appear lighter and clearer on white high-fire clay bodies. Speckled or dark clay bodies may produce more rustic and deeper results.
  • Firing effect: The kiln atmosphere, peak temperature, firing rate and cooling schedule may affect the surface color transitions and crystalline breaks.
  • Storage: Keep the product tightly sealed at room temperature and away from direct sunlight.
  • Safety: Use suitable protective equipment during application and keep the product out of the reach of children.
Important Recommendation: The color and surface appearance of reactive high-fire glazes may vary depending on the application thickness, clay body, kiln atmosphere and cooling schedule. To observe the black-cherry tone and crystalline edge breaks, testing on a sample tile under your own clay and kiln conditions is recommended before the main application.
