Application and Antique Effect Notes

  • Breaking character: The glaze may become thinner along reliefs, projections and edges, revealing the underlying dark metallic black and brown tones. It may pool in recessed areas, intensifying the matte sage-green color.
  • Brush application: Three coats are recommended to achieve a rich and balanced antique appearance. Allowing sufficient drying time between coats supports surface consistency.
  • Clay selection: Green tones and edge breaks appear more distinct on white high-fire clay bodies. Speckled or grogged clay bodies may produce more dramatic and rustic results.
  • Dipping and spray application: Depending on the required consistency, 5-10% water may be added in a controlled manner. Excessive thinning may reduce the color intensity and reactive effect.
  • Preparation: Mix the product thoroughly before use to distribute the glaze components evenly and ensure a balanced surface effect.
Important Recommendation: The final appearance of reactive and effect glazes may vary depending on the application thickness, clay body, firing schedule and cooling rate. Testing on a sample tile is recommended before the main application to observe the antique surface character and color breaks under your own working conditions.
