SP 1242 Mold - Artistic High-Fire Glaze

SP 1242 Mold is an artistic high-fire glaze that produces green speckles, flowing transitions, and reactive pooling over a light cream and white base. Depending on application thickness, irregular patterns ranging from light green to dark forest green may develop across the surface. It creates distinctive surfaces on naturally textured tableware, decorative forms, and rustic designs.

Food Safe: This glaze is suitable for surfaces that come into contact with food when proper application and firing conditions are followed.

Application and Mold Effect Notes

  • Reactive character: The intensity of the green speckles, flowing transitions, and dark pooling may vary depending on application thickness and firing conditions.
  • Brush application: Applying 3 coats is recommended for a rich, balanced surface. Allow the surface to dry completely between coats and apply each coat in a different direction.
  • Mixing: Mix the product thoroughly before application to distribute the speckle- and pattern-forming components evenly across the surface. Stir again at regular intervals during application.
  • Clay body selection: The light base and green effects appear more pronounced on white high-fire clay bodies. Speckled, grogged, or dark clay bodies may produce more rustic surfaces.
  • Application thickness: Dark green pooling and reactive patterns may intensify in thicker applications. Lighter transitions may appear over thinly glazed edges and raised details.
  • Textured surfaces: Reactive components may concentrate in recessed and raised areas, making the texture of the form more pronounced.
  • Dipping and pouring: Depending on the required application consistency, 5-10% water may be added. Add water gradually and in a controlled manner.
Important Recommendation: The appearance of artistic, speckled, and reactive glazes may vary depending on application thickness, clay body, kiln atmosphere, firing schedule, and cooling rate. Testing on a sample tile before the main application is recommended.
