S 2071 Milano - Artistic Low-Fire Glaze

S 2071 Milano is a glossy artistic effect glaze that brings the modern character of Italian design and the distinctive texture of terrazzo surfaces to pottery forms. Terracotta red and anthracite-colored particles dispersed over an opaque cream and vanilla-toned base create a characteristic stracciatella appearance. As the speckle distribution may vary with each firing, it can be used to create distinctive surfaces on modern tableware, decorative objects, and original design collections.

Food Safe: This glaze is suitable for surfaces that come into contact with food when proper application and firing conditions are followed.

Application Notes

  • Brush Application: To achieve the opaque cream base and characteristic red-anthracite speckle distribution, applying 3 coats over a white clay body is recommended. Allow the surface to dry completely between coats and apply each coat in a different direction.
  • Clay body selection: The cream base and colored particles appear cleaner and more pronounced on white clay bodies. On red, dark, or grogged clay bodies, the base tone and contrast of the speckles may vary.
  • Particle distribution: Mix the product regularly before and during application to ensure even distribution of the effect particles across the surface. Do not allow the particles to accumulate at the bottom of the container.
  • Consistency adjustment: The product is ready to use for brush application. For dipping or spray methods, add 5-10% water gradually and in a controlled manner to achieve the appropriate flow consistency.
  • Application thickness: Variations in coat thickness may affect the opacity of the cream base and the density of the speckles. With excessively thick applications, the glaze may move on vertical surfaces.
Important Recommendation: The final color, flow, and speckle distribution of the glaze may vary depending on application thickness, clay body, kiln atmosphere, firing schedule, and cooling rate. Testing on sample tiles, particularly in a vertical position, is recommended before proceeding with the final application.
