S 2055 Fog - Reactive Artistic Low-Fire Glaze

S 2055 Fog is a glossy, reactive artistic glaze that brings the misty atmosphere of a smoky morning and deep gray tones to pottery surfaces. Its fluid character creates dark, smoky tones in recessed areas while thinning toward the edges to produce lighter, silvery-gray transitions. Its glassy gloss and variable color character add mysterious depth to decorative objects, sculptural forms, and textured surfaces.

Not Food Safe: This glaze is not recommended for functional surfaces that come into contact with food, such as plates, bowls, mugs, and similar items. It should be used for decorative pieces.

Application Notes

  • Brush Application: To achieve the characteristic smoky gray appearance and light-to-dark transitions, applying 3 coats over a white clay body is recommended. Allow the surface to dry completely between coats and apply each coat in a different direction.
  • Flow control: This glaze is highly fluid. On vertical forms, do not apply the glaze all the way to the base and leave an adequate unglazed safety margin to reduce the risk of the glaze running onto and sticking to the kiln shelf.
  • Clay body selection: Smoky gray tones and silvery transitions appear more pronounced on white clay bodies. On red, dark, or grogged clay bodies, the color depth and reactive character of the glaze may vary.
  • Application thickness: Variations in coat thickness directly affect glaze flow and tonal transitions across the surface. Darker pooling may develop in recessed areas, while thinner edges may produce lighter gray tones.
  • Consistency adjustment: The product is ready to use for brush application. For dipping or spray methods, add 5-10% water gradually and in a controlled manner to achieve the appropriate flow consistency.
  • Mixing: Mix the product regularly before and during application to ensure even distribution of pigments and reactive glaze components across the surface.
Important Recommendation: The final color, amount of flow, and smoky transitions of the glaze may vary depending on application thickness, clay body, kiln atmosphere, firing schedule, and cooling rate. Testing on sample tiles, particularly in a vertical position, is recommended before proceeding with the final application.
