S 2006 Moss - Artistic Low-Fire Glaze

S 2006 Moss is a distinctive, highly fluid artistic glaze that brings deep forest greens and moss-like textures to glazed surfaces. Its reactive character gathers in recessed areas to create rich green tones, while a micro-crackle effect gives the surface a natural, organic, and antique appearance. Due to its dynamic behavior, different effects and distinctive surface transitions may emerge with each firing.

Not Food Safe: This glaze is not recommended for functional surfaces that come into contact with food, including plates, bowls, mugs, and similar items. It should be used on decorative pieces.

Application Notes

  • Brush application: The product is supplied ready to use at a consistency suitable for brush application. Applying 3 coats over white clay is recommended to achieve its characteristic depth and moss-like effect.
  • Coat application: Allow the surface to dry between coats. Apply each coat in a different direction to achieve more balanced coverage.
  • Flow control: Due to its high fluidity, leave sufficient unglazed clearance near the base of vertical forms. Thicker applications may increase the risk of glaze runs.
  • Firing effect: Firing closer to the upper end of the temperature range may increase glaze flow and intensify color transitions across the surface.
  • Dipping and spraying: Depending on the required application consistency, approximately 5-10% water may be added. Add water carefully to preserve the glaze’s opacity.
  • Clay body selection: Green tones appear brighter and more vibrant on white clay. Dark or grogged clay bodies may produce darker, more rustic, and mysterious results.
Important Recommendation: The appearance of artistic and fluid glazes may vary depending on application thickness, clay body, firing schedule, and firing temperature. Testing on vertical sample tiles before the main application and batch production is recommended to evaluate the amount of flow and the moss-like effect.
