S 1953 Metallic Raku - Ceramingo Artistic Low-Fire Glaze

S 1953 Metallic Raku is a specialty artistic low-fire glaze that combines the variable surface effects created by the Raku firing technique with metallic depth and iridescent reflections. Under a reduction atmosphere, it can produce antique metal appearances, dark tonal transitions, and lustrous metallic effects. The product is supplied in a ready-to-use liquid form for easy application over bisque surfaces.

Not Food Safe: This glaze is not recommended for functional surfaces of plates, bowls, mugs, or similar items that come into contact with food. It should be used on decorative pieces only.

Application Notes

  • Product preparation: Mix the glaze thoroughly before application to achieve a uniform consistency throughout the liquid.
  • Brush application: Apply the product in even coats over a clean and dry bisque surface. Allow the surface to dry between coats.
  • Kiln removal: Once the glaze has matured, remove the piece from the kiln between 900°C and 1000°C using appropriate protective equipment and Raku tongs.
  • Reduction process: Place the high-temperature piece in a metal chamber containing sawdust or another suitable combustible material, then close the lid to reduce the amount of oxygen inside.
  • Effect development: The reduction atmosphere may create metallic reflections, dark color transitions, and iridescent artistic effects across the glazed surface.
  • Result variability: The kiln removal temperature, reduction material, time spent in the chamber, and cooling method can directly affect the final surface appearance.
  • Safety: Raku firing involves high temperatures, open flames, dense smoke, and hot materials. The process must only be performed outdoors or in a strongly ventilated area using appropriate protective equipment.
Important Recommendation: The metallic effects produced by Raku glazes may vary depending on application thickness, kiln removal temperature, reduction material, time spent in the chamber, and cooling method. Testing on sample tiles under your own firing conditions before the main application is recommended.
