S 1620 Metallic Green - Artistic Low-Fire Glaze

S 1620 Metallic Green is an artistic low-fire glaze that creates dark green tones, metallic highlights, and reactive color transitions across the surface. It may produce distinctive metallic green and silvery-gray movement on white clay bodies. Its fluid consistency and varied surface character give decorative pottery forms a deep, modern, and eye-catching appearance.

Not Food Safe: This glaze is not recommended for functional surfaces that come into contact with food, including plates, bowls, mugs, and similar items. It should only be used on decorative pieces.

Application Notes

  • Preparation: Mix the product thoroughly before application until a uniform consistency is achieved.
  • Brush Application: The glaze can be applied directly to a clean, dry bisque surface. Three coats are recommended to achieve a finish similar to the visual sample.
  • Drying Between Coats: Allow the surface to dry before applying the next coat. Apply each coat in a different direction for an even distribution.
  • Dipping and Spray Application: Depending on the application method, 5-10% water may be added gradually and in a controlled manner.
  • Flow Character: This glaze has high flow. Thick applications may increase the risk of the glaze running downward and onto the kiln shelf.
  • Metallic Effect: As the number of coats and application thickness increase, the metallic green appearance, gray highlights, and reactive surface movement may become more pronounced.
  • Unglazed Base Margin: Leave a sufficient unglazed area at the base of vertical forms to reduce the risk of the glaze running onto the kiln shelf.
  • Clay Body Selection: Metallic green and silvery transitions may appear more pronounced on white clay bodies, while dark or colored clay bodies may produce deeper results.
  • Storage: Store the product tightly sealed at room temperature, away from direct sunlight, and protect it from freezing.
Important Recommendation: The appearance of highly fluid reactive glazes may vary depending on application thickness, clay body, kiln atmosphere, and firing schedule. Test the flow and metallic effect on a vertical test tile before the main application.
