Application Notes

  • Brush Application: Applying 3 coats over a white clay body is recommended to achieve the characteristic green, pink, and red variations. Allow the surface to dry between coats and apply each coat in a different direction.
  • Flow Control: Due to its fluid character, the glaze may move downward on vertical surfaces and when applied thickly. Apply more thinly near the base of the form to help prevent glaze accumulation.
  • Clay Body Selection: Pastel tones appear fresher and more pronounced on white casting and pottery clay bodies. The intensity of the green and red variations may change on different clay body colors.
  • Dipping and Spray Application: 5-10% water may be added gradually and in a controlled manner to achieve the desired flow. Determine the appropriate dilution ratio using a test tile.
  • Mixing: Shake or mix thoroughly before use to ensure even pigment distribution and balanced color transitions.
  • Application Thickness: Colors may appear lighter and more subtle with thin applications. With thicker applications, red variations, flow, and surface movement may become more pronounced.
Important Recommendation: The final color balance and flow characteristics of the glaze may vary depending on application thickness, number of coats, clay body, kiln firing schedule, and cooling conditions. Especially on vertical forms, testing on a test tile under your own firing conditions before the main application is recommended to evaluate the degree of flow.
