S 1009 Olive Green - Artistic Low-Fire Glaze

S 1009 Olive Green is an opaque artistic glaze with a bold character that combines antique metallic reflections with deep olive-green tones. Its surface appearance changes significantly depending on application thickness: thin coats can produce distinct green-metallic tones, while thicker coats may develop a dark, saturated finish approaching black. On relief, textured, and decorative forms, pigments collect around details to create a pronounced sense of depth.

Not Food Safe: This glaze is not recommended for functional surfaces of plates, bowls, mugs, or similar items that come into contact with food. It should be used for decorative pieces.

Application Notes

  • Brush Application: The product is ready for brush application. Thin applications can produce more pronounced green-metallic tones, while thicker applications may develop a dark metallic surface approaching black.
  • Flow Control: Since thicker coats may tend to run, leave an adequate unglazed or more thinly glazed safety margin near the base of vertical forms.
  • Dipping and Spray Application: Depending on the required application consistency, 5-10% water may be added. Adjust the consistency gradually and in a controlled manner.
  • Clay Body Selection: Olive-green tones and metallic transitions appear clearer on white clay bodies. The glaze tone and surface character may vary on red, black, grogged, or dark-colored clay bodies.
  • Care: To preserve the artistic and metallic surface character, washing finished pieces in a dishwasher is not recommended.
Important Recommendation: The final appearance of the glaze may vary depending on application thickness, clay body, kiln atmosphere, and firing schedule. Testing on an upright test tile before the main application is recommended to evaluate metallic transitions, crackle development, and the degree of flow.
