OZZ GLAZE YD-078 Saffron - Artistic High-Fire Glaze

OZZ GLAZE YD-078 Saffron is an artistic high-fire glaze that creates plum tones and reactive blue reflections. Its low-flow character helps preserve surface details on vertical forms. After firing, it produces a deep, dynamic surface with color breaks that vary depending on application thickness and the clay body used.

Food Safe: This glaze is suitable for surfaces that come into contact with food when proper application and firing conditions are followed.
Sample Application Information: The samples shown in the product images were brush-applied to high-fire clay bodies and fired at 1210°C. Different clay bodies, coat thicknesses and firing schedules may alter the final appearance.

Application Notes

  • Mixing: Mix the product regularly before and during application to ensure an even distribution of the coloring and reactive components.
  • Coat application: For brush application, apply 2-3 even coats to the bisque-fired surface, allowing sufficient drying time between coats.
  • Thickness effect: Thinner areas may display lighter plum tones, while color depth and reactive blue reflections may intensify in thicker areas.
  • Reactive character: The intensity of the plum tones, blue reflections and color breaks may vary depending on peak temperature, kiln atmosphere, hold time and cooling schedule.
  • Flow: This product has a low-flow character, but surface movement related to application thickness and firing temperature should be evaluated on test tiles.
  • Dilution: For spray and dipping applications, add water in small increments, mix the product after each addition and avoid over-dilution.
  • Form effect: Details may remain defined on flat and vertical surfaces, while color intensity may increase where the glaze pools in recessed and textured areas.
  • Clay body selection: The appearance of the plum tones and blue reflections may vary on porcelain, light-colored, dark or speckled high-fire clay bodies.
  • Surface preparation: Remove all dust and residue from the bisque-fired surface before application.
  • Temperature control: Firings outside the specified temperature range may alter the color and surface texture.
  • Glaze combinations: Before combining with other glazes, test chemical compatibility, color transitions and the resulting surface effect on a test tile.
  • Safety: Use appropriate personal protective equipment during application and ensure that the workspace is adequately ventilated.
  • Storage: Keep the container tightly closed and store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight.
Important Recommendation: The intensity of the plum tones, the distribution of the blue reflections and the color breaks across the surface may vary depending on application thickness, clay body, peak temperature, kiln atmosphere and cooling schedule. Preparing test tiles with different coat thicknesses and clay bodies is recommended before the main application.
