Technical Details and Application

Painting and Glazing

Our Refsan underglaze paints are highly compatible with Mia Vase bisque. Glazing is crucial for both aesthetic depth and structural longevity.

  • Ceramic Application: Fire between 1040°C and 1050°C for a professional, non-porous finish.
  • Tile (Çini) Application: For traditional artisanal patterns, fire at 900°C – 920°C for a refined and delicate appearance.

Decorative Use with Acrylic Paint

  • Acrylic paints can be used for decorative projects that do not require kiln firing.
  • Warning: Acrylic-painted surfaces are not food-safe and are not suitable for direct contact with water over long periods.
  • We recommend applying a protective varnish post-painting to safeguard the decorative finish.

Quality and Natural Variations

Each Mia Vase is fired at 1050°C to reach its sturdy bisque state. Due to the slip-casting method, minor variations in thickness, dimensions, or clay tone (white vs. red clay) may occur. These subtle differences are characteristics of handcrafted pottery and add unique value to each piece.

Firing Safety & Best Practices

  • The vase must be thoroughly cleaned of dust and completely dry before glazing.
  • Always align your kiln schedule with the specific temperature requirements of your glaze.
  • Running a test fire is recommended, as slight temperature shifts can alter the final bisque color.
  • The technical outcome of the final firing and glazing process is the user's responsibility.
