Technical Details and Application

Painting and Glazing

  • Underglaze Decoration: Refsan ready-to-use underglaze colors can be safely used on both tile and ceramic bisque surfaces.
  • Glazing: Glazing enhances both the aesthetic appearance and durability of the product.
  • Ceramic Glazes: Ceramic glazes generally mature between 1040°C and 1050°C, producing a smooth and durable surface.
  • Tile Glazes: Tile glazes are typically fired between 900°C and 920°C and create a thin, elegant decorative finish.

Firing

Our products are carefully fired at 1050°C to reach the bisque stage. This firing temperature increases durability and enhances the natural characteristics of the ceramic body. Variations in firing time and temperature may influence the final surface appearance.

Decorative Use with Acrylic Paint

  • Acrylic paints can be used for decorative painting.
  • Warning: Acrylic paint is not suitable for food contact.
  • Applying protective varnish after painting is recommended to improve durability.
  • Acrylic decoration does not require firing and is intended for decorative use only.

Possible Variations in Handmade Products

Bisque ceramic products produced through slip casting or wheel forming may show slight variations in thickness and dimensions. Structural variations can occur depending on the form and casting process, reflecting the handcrafted nature of each piece.

Different clay bodies may also produce natural tone differences. White clay bodies typically create lighter bisque tones, while red clay bodies produce warmer and darker tones.

Product Durability

After glazing and firing, ceramic products become durable and resistant to everyday use. However, care requirements may vary depending on the finishing method. Decorative acrylic surfaces may gradually wear over time compared to glazed ceramic finishes.

Important Considerations During Glazing and Firing

  • Clean and completely dry the product before glazing.
  • Ceramic and tile glazes mature at different temperatures, therefore the correct firing temperature must be selected.
  • After acrylic decoration, varnish can be applied to protect the surface.
  • Different firing temperatures may influence bisque color, so preliminary testing is recommended.
