Technical Details and Application

Painting and Glazing

  • Underglaze Decoration: Refsan ready underglaze paints can be safely applied on both tile and ceramic bisque surfaces.
  • Ceramic Glazing: Ceramic glazes generally mature between 1040°C and 1050°C, producing a smooth and durable surface.
  • Tile Glazing: Tile glazes are typically fired between 900°C and 920°C, creating a thinner decorative finish.

Firing

Our products are carefully bisque fired at 1050°C. This firing temperature strengthens the ceramic structure and stabilizes the natural color of the clay body. Different kiln temperatures and firing durations may slightly influence the final surface appearance.

Decorative Use with Acrylic Paint

  • Acrylic paints can be used for decorative painting applications.
  • Warning: Acrylic paint is not suitable for food contact.
  • Applying a protective varnish after painting is recommended to increase durability.
  • Acrylic decoration does not require kiln firing and is intended for decorative purposes.

Handcrafted Nature and Possible Variations

Bisque ceramics produced through slip casting or wheel techniques may show small variations in thickness and dimensions. These natural differences occur during production and contribute to the unique handmade character of each piece.

Different clay bodies may also create natural color variations. The bisque color depends on the clay used. White clay typically produces lighter tones, while red clay creates warmer and darker shades.

Durability

Ceramic products reach their final durability after glazing and firing. Care and usage requirements may vary depending on the finishing method. Glazed ceramic surfaces are generally resistant to external factors, while acrylic painted decorations may wear over time.

Important Notes for Glazing and Firing

  • Clean and dry the product completely before glazing.
  • Ceramic and tile glazes mature at different temperatures, therefore correct firing temperatures must be used.
  • After acrylic decoration, applying protective varnish helps protect the surface from external factors.
  • Different firing temperatures may affect the color of bisque ceramics, therefore test firing is recommended.
