Technical Details and Applications

Painting and Glazing

  • Underglaze Decoration: Refsan ready underglaze paints can be safely used on both tile and ceramic bisque surfaces.
  • Ceramic Glazing: Ceramic glazes generally mature between 1040°C and 1050°C, producing a smooth and durable surface.
  • Tile Glazing: Tile glazes are typically fired between 900°C and 920°C, creating a refined decorative finish.

Firing

Our products are carefully bisque fired at 1050°C. This firing temperature increases the durability of the ceramic body and enhances the final glaze results. Different firing schedules may slightly affect the final appearance.

Decorative Painting with Acrylic

  • Acrylic paints can be used for decorative painting.
  • Warning: Acrylic painted surfaces are not suitable for food contact.
  • Applying protective varnish after painting is recommended.
  • Acrylic decoration does not require kiln firing and is suitable for decorative use.

Possible Variations in Handmade Products

Bisque ceramics produced by casting or wheel forming may show slight variations in thickness and dimensions. These variations occur naturally during the ceramic production process and reflect the handcrafted nature of each piece.

Different clay bodies may also create natural tone differences. White clay produces lighter bisque tones while red clay results in warmer and darker shades.

Product Durability

Ceramic products become durable after glazing and final firing. However, maintenance and usage conditions may vary depending on finishing techniques. Glazed ceramics are generally resistant to external factors, while acrylic painted surfaces may wear over time.

Important Notes for Glazing and Firing

  • The product must be cleaned and dried before glazing.
  • Ceramic and tile glazes mature at different temperatures, therefore proper firing temperature must be selected.
  • After acrylic decoration, applying protective varnish helps protect the surface.
  • Different firing temperatures may affect the color of bisque ceramics, therefore test firing is recommended.
