GCR 1951 Bright Cobalt Blue - Ceramingo Raku Artistic Low-Fire Glaze

GCR 1951 Bright Cobalt Blue is a ready-to-use liquid artistic low-fire glaze developed for the traditional Raku firing technique, producing intense and brilliant cobalt-blue tones. The reduction atmosphere may create deep blue transitions, metallic reflections, and distinctive artistic effects that vary from piece to piece. It is suitable for decorative objects, sculptural forms, and artistic Raku projects.

Not Food Safe: This glaze is not recommended for functional surfaces of plates, bowls, mugs, or similar items that come into contact with food. It should be used on decorative pieces only.

Application Notes

  • Glaze application: Apply the product at an even and uniform thickness over a clean, dry, and dust-free bisque surface.
  • Kiln removal: Once the glaze has matured, remove the piece from the kiln between 900°C and 1000°C using appropriate Raku equipment.
  • Reduction process: Place the hot piece in a metal container filled with sawdust or another suitable combustible material, then close the lid.
  • Surface effect: The reduction atmosphere may affect the depth of the cobalt-blue tones and the appearance of the metallic reflections.
  • Result variability: Blue tones and surface transitions may vary depending on glaze thickness, removal temperature, sawdust density, and reduction time.
  • Safety: The Raku process must be performed outdoors or in a very well-ventilated area using heat-resistant gloves, a face shield, suitable tongs, and protective clothing.
Important Recommendation: The cobalt-blue tones, metallic reflections, and surface character produced during Raku firing may vary depending on the firing schedule, amount of sawdust, speed of kiln removal, and reduction time. Testing on sample tiles before the main project or batch production is recommended.
