GC 2006 Moss - Artistic Low-Fire Glaze

GC 2006 Moss is a distinctive, highly fluid artistic glaze that brings deep forest greens and moss-like textures to pottery surfaces. Its reactive character pools in recessed areas to produce rich green tones, while a micro-crackle effect gives the surface a natural, organic, and antique appearance. Its dynamic behavior may create unique effects and varied surface transitions with every firing.

Not Food Safe: This glaze is not recommended for plates, bowls, mugs, or other functional surfaces that come into contact with food. It should be used on decorative pieces only.

Application Notes

  • Brush application: The product is supplied ready to use at a consistency suitable for brush application. Applying 3 coats on white clay is recommended to achieve the characteristic depth and moss effect.
  • Coat application: Allow each coat to dry. Apply each new coat in a different direction to achieve a more balanced covering.
  • Flow control: Due to its high fluidity, leave a sufficient unglazed safety margin near the base of vertical forms. The risk of running may increase with thicker applications.
  • Firing effect: At approximately 1040°C, the glaze may become more fluid and its artistic transitions may become more pronounced.
  • Dipping and spray application: Adjust the consistency by adding approximately 5-10% water. Add water gradually and preserve the glaze’s coverage.
  • Clay body selection: Green tones appear brighter and more vivid on white clay. Dark or grogged clay bodies may produce darker, more rustic and mysterious results.
  • Effect variation: Clay color, number of coats, application thickness, and firing conditions may alter the color transitions, crackle pattern, and degree of flow.
Important Recommendation: The appearance of artistic fluid glazes may vary depending on application thickness, clay body, firing schedule, and firing temperature. To evaluate the flow and moss effect under your own application conditions, test on vertical tiles before the main project or batch production.
